Re: your BR-I don't know how short of breath you were ,but you are very short on the pullout.Assuming you have the breath for it you could go much farther before the pull down and then before the kick recovery.Give it a try in workout to pushoff, count to 3,pulldown,count to 2 and kick. Also there is a big problem with your right foot in your kick. You are leading with the top of the foot instead of the instep and that is actually something that can get you DQd.Interestingly the left foot is OK.That is something you really need to work on.Good luck.

RE: First swim meet

If you look closely you will see he does not have his fingers forced tightly together. Yes I believe he was getting more hand surface area that way. The other thnh o noticed was good rotation on the back stroke.

RE: First swim meet

Here are some dryland moves you could incorporate to improve your stroke.Bobby Freeman - C'Mon And Swim (1964) - YouTube

On the dive your right foot, your toes pointing out to the right. I prefer to see the toes slightly pointing in. You cannot get a proper push off when toes are pointing out. There is about a .5 sec loss in time. Also the breakout from your dive and turn you had major water turbulance. If you look you can see lots of turbulance following you.

RE: First swim meet

We need to work on your starts. Unfortunately my wife was late arriving and missed taping my 100 free, but I got 1:04.91, dropping 0.18 sec. I flubbed my 2nd flip turn and ended up pushing off way deep, so lost a good 1-2 sec trying to get back to the surface:shakes head: But honestly my short term goal is to break a minute, so I guess 1:03 doesn't look that much better. I need to keep working on maintaining technique while stroking fast and hard. I could feel the technique falling apart as I went really hard.

Here is my 200 IM, got 3:01.80. I'm the guy with the orange cap. Paced myself a whole lot on my fly (maybe too much?), back and *** are still atrociously slow. George, I had been looking down when breathing and shooting lower in practice but totally forgot those things in this race. :shakes head:

As a lifelong competitive swimmer, I have learned that if you are nervous it will only affect you negatively. Do not really focus on what is coming up, you have already put all the work in, now you just need to perform. If you have been practicing well, it will pay off. Do not get discouraged if you do no do well, it happens to many swimmers when they are in season. Wait until you rest, you will drop loads of time. The most important thing is to just stay calm and do what you know how to do. :)

RE: First swim meet

Thank you.

On the BK to BR turn come off on your side and don't bother to turn facing forward first.
Unless you were really running out of breathe you were way too fast on your pullout.Count at least to 2(to 3 if you can) before the pulldown and then at least to 2 before the kick.
Your pull and kick were pretty good.
You were looking too much forward instead of down.
On the recovery concentrate on shooting your hands straight forward. You are shooting them up to get your hands out of the water.Getting your hands out of the water on the recovery is only a good idea if you are riding high enough at the time that you can have them out of the water while shooting them straight forward. This upward movement slows your flow into the recovery.
You BR has real potential though.
Thank you, I see what you mean by the shoot going out of the water. I'll be careful about that. And I should be looking down on my breaths, I often forget.
