They do a
100 Yard X 100 times swim. I take it that this is 100 repeats of
100 yards. What is the repeat time? Every 2 min. 3 min? Think
this workout is super for long distance training.

RE: 100 X 100 + 10,000 Question

We do it in a fairly large group and each lane decides what the interval will be. We also alternate leading every 10 so that you can draft most of the set. I guess it's the easy way out, but it is still taxing.

RE: 100 X 100 + 10,000 Question

Last year we swam our 100 X100’s a:
6 on 1:40
6 on 1:35
6 on 1:30
6 on 1:25
1 on 3:00
And repeat this 4 times.

Notes:
We adjust the interval time up or down or the distance down (100 X50’s or 75’s) depending on the lane.
We generally swim the set without rest between sets, go right from one set of 6 to the next. Some will take 30 seconds rest after the 1:35 and 1:25 set to start on the top.

RE: 100 X 100 + 10,000 Question

Here it is from July 2010. 50 x 200 on 2:10, SCY. I read somewhere that Eva Fabian does a set of 50 x 200 on 2:00 or 2:05. Marly was an assistant coach for our team until she was fatally wounded in a bicycle accident a couple years ago.

This year, we had 88 people show up. Across 14 lanes of swimming, we had all intervals from 1:20 to 1:55 swimming. We put it all up on the scoreboard to help us count.

He and Brian Goodell from Mission Viejo were the best distance swimmers in the world at that time.

The coach timed him on every single one and he got faster as the set went on. He was holding :53's towards the end and finished with a :52. That's still hard to imagine anyone doing stuff like this.

There's a book called "Four Champions and One Gold Medal". This is one of several unbelievable practices which are mentioned in it.

I think the prototypical hundred hundreds is 100 x 100 on a 100s interval, or "one hundred hundreds on a hundred".

When I did it a couple times with the NASA group at Northwestern they swam on a 1:30 interval. That was generally too fast for me, so I'd mostly do 75s, every now and then doing a few 100s.

RE: 100 X 100 + 10,000 Question

Cambridge Masters has grown a bit of a tradition of 100x100 on New Year's Eve day.
