Today I watched NBC hour long coverage and noticed in this Women's 100 Back which was the last event shown, another 100 Back USMS National Record was broken. Noriko Inada swam a time of 1:00.74 which broke the record in the 30-34 age group which she set at Auburn last summer at 1:01.78 for a 1 second improvement. She was only .64 away from winning the event. With another second improvement she could very well be in the finals at the Olympic Trials as a USMS masters swimmer.I imagine Noriko will be contending for the Japanese team and hoping to be in the Olympic finals in London.

Excellent 100 backstroke by 40 year old masters swimmer Sheri Hart: 1:05.13. Counts as USMS record but not World record which is 1:07 something. Rich: You are correct that is a USMS National Record and the old USMS Record was by Jody Smith at 1:07.21. Looks like Sabir Muhammad has dropped another Masters Records:cheerleader: Men's 35-39 50 Free 23.29 in prelims Good to see the local guys doing well:bliss: Rob, is anybody measuring the pool after the sessions so this USMS National Record counts? In USA National Meets, they have a surveyor come in and measure it at the beginning of the meet and they will only do a measurement again if there is an American, US Open, and World Record set. This is what I was told by the officials at Stanford University where the last USA Nationals were held. I coordinated with them last August because one of our swimmers set a USMS National Record but the only way this record counted was the direction that I gave them and they were able to get all the paperwork straight and the record counted. I am wondering if this is being done at the completion of this meet not just for Sabir but for others as well. Nicholas Brunelli broke one of the oldest USMS Records at this meet. He went :22.02 in the prelims to break the 1983 USMS Record of Kevin Deforrest, who went :22.59 which was swam at IUPUI Natatorium at the USMS Long Course Nationals. At that time, that swam was 3rd in the FINA World Rankings in Swimming and would have won the USA Swimming Nationals that year in Clovis ahead of then American Record holder Robin Leamy, whose American Record at the time was :22.54. Nicholas also went :50.14 to clear the USMS Record of :50.74 by Nick Shackell set back in 2000. His finals times were both slower than prelims and his 50 time was :22.08 and the 100 was :50.27 of course all this will not count unless the measurements and record applications are turned in.

More like one reason, Heavy training. Unshaven and lycra doesn't slow you down 7 seconds in a 200. Sure it could, and I think Gregg Troy is notorious for not resting his swimmers for these mid-season meets. Lochte may well have done an 8,000 meter workout between prelims and finals. Not kidding. edit: sorry, misread your post the first time. Anyway, yeah, I suspect the Florida swimmers did not rest at all for this meet.

Yeah. In his post-race interview, Lochte mentioned being in heavy training and being unshaven to go along with racing in a lycra brief. Three reasons why the WR holder finished 6th... More like one reason, Heavy training. Unshaven and lycra doesn't slow you down 7 seconds in a 200.

Some nice swims in finals. Caitlin Leverenz was just .05 off the U.S. Open record in the 200 IM. Nice swim by Nathan Adrian to distance himself from a good field in the 50.

This meet's timing is strange. How seriously are the elite/National Team members taking it vs. the Duel in the Pool in two weeks time? Last year's SCM meet was seriously (suits) fast.

The 400 free prelims are finished and only 3 of 10 in the A final for men and 4 of 10 for women are from the U.S. I hope Dagny Knutson is just swimming through this meet. She finished 60th with a 4:25. Ouch. I have to say her current swimming is befuddling. Ever since she backed out of Auburn (I think) her swimming has been odd. On a better and more impressive note, we all need to pull hard for super awesome USMS member Erika Braun who is extremely close to OT cuts in the 50 free, at age 39.
