I learned how to swim from scratch during my senior year in high school with no intentions to compete - just wanted to learn. I ended up loving it, and I picked it up fairly well, so I swam summer league the following summer. I loved competing

RE: 18, new swimmer

This new promotional video is really great. I'll second that! Allen is King Frog over on The Breaststroke Lane, so make sure to go back and read his posts on the entire thread.

As for your location, lucky you! You are in Ande's territory. :applaud:

RE: 18, new swimmer

I think that you would very much like it and enjoy it. Not only will you be able to do what you have recently learned that you loved, but you will make friends along the way and continue to bring that 49 sec down to a 45, then a 39 and so on as the coach(es) work with you and give you feed back.

I joined masters right after high school and it was a really great experience and Im 24 now and it still is great experience every time.

I would say join the masters team and on the off chance that you don't like, then at least you tried it.

Best wishes.

@no200fly: I'm actually in Austin for college, so I'd be swimming with Longhorn Aquatics. Just out of curiosity, are you currently in Houston? If so, which team do you swim for?

RE: 18, new swimmer

We are always glad to have another breaststroke lover.Check out the Breaststroke Lane The Breastroke Lane - U.S. Masters Swimming Discussion Forums .I think you will love Masters.

RE: 18, new swimmer

I'm sure you'd fit right in! Fantastic program, from everything I've seen/heard. Should be quite a few people your age or close to it also.

RE: 18, new swimmer

No, I'm in Dallas.
The longhorn group is great too. I have some old friends from college who swim there. My middle daughter just started at UT and I have swum with them a few times when I was in Austin.

RE: 18, new swimmer

You will enjoy masters.
