I have to agree keeping his head in the game seems to have been Ervin's only problem. The talent is obviously there. So i am hopeful that we were wrong! The 49.9 this weekend showed he has done the hard part and that he is truly in shape and committed. I give at least 50/50 to be in london this summer.

22.39 in the 50 this weekend. I don't know how he has been training but I think that it is clear that the ability is still there. I only think it will take a 21.9 to make the Olympic team. I also seem to recall that he was a 21.2 in SCM the summer he went 21.8. This doesn't seem impossible, at all. But I think getting any hopes up for a real comeback are silly because I doubt he will see it through.

So THAT's who that guy was... wth, I raced in a 50fr heat with a guy who won the 50fr in Sydney!?!?!? And I didn't even know?! Don't feel bad. I didn't know about any of that either.

HEY, WAIT A MINUTE! So THAT's who that guy was... wth, I raced in a 50fr heat with a guy who won the 50fr in Sydney!?!?!? And I didn't even know?! And I just cool-as-you-please introduced myself to him earlier in the meet, without knowing who the heck he was, and wished him and a friend to have fun in the meet... I feel like such a dumbass! edit: okay, so actually I was in a different heat... I feel less stupid now.

Patrick, we missed our opportunity to "race" against aerobic royalty last Sunday as Lance Armstrong won the local Tempe off road triathlon (outsplit Mike Melley former ASU D-man on the swim). Given some of the times he laid down awhile back when he dropped into a USAS workout in Scottsdale, it's probably best for your and my ego that we missed this!

Don't be embarrassed. I got to 'race' Rowdy once and posted the video (forums.usms.org/blog.php. I got to be in the same heat as Janet Evans this summer and didn't even hang with her for the 1st 50. But she probably wondered how that old guy hung on the rest of the way after the first 50.

I was at that meet. So was Ahelee. "Anthony Ervin" sounds vaguely familiar to me, but I had no idea he was at the meet the same time as me. Heck, I was probably in the same heat as him a couple times. Now that I see his picture, I do remember seeing him around the meet.

Maybe I missed it or maybe no one on the forums went to the recent meet in Mountain View, but his 'debut' came at a Masters meet where he set some National records -- theswimmerscircle.com/.../. Who's next on the comeback trail? Google his 50y FR on YouTube - he went 20.+ solo in the pouring rain during the diving break of a Cal women's meet last year.

I got to "race" Tony at that meet in the 50 (next lane). I have yet to build the confidence to post the YouTube video link. We leave the block at the same time, in the air the same time, hands reach water at the same time ... and by the time our feet enter he is almost a half body ahead of me. Amazing talent and good guy as well.

Anthony Ervin may be the most talented sprinter ever. Too bad there's no 200 free relay at the Olympics because I think he could make the team if there was. Making the team in the 100 free is going to be much more difficult for him.
