Does anyone know when they will announce the dates for this event? www.montreal2014.com/index.php this is the event website. It has the dates listed as July 28-August 9, 2014. That, however, covers all disciplines. The competitive pool swimming portion will only take up a portion of that time.

Relays are club.FINA will not recognize national teams for Masters. Thanks. I need to resurrect some of my college buddies for that meet!

Thanks, sweet, I age up that year. Not having the 1500 @ Worlds is pretty crappy. I undertand it is a longer event and this is a very large meet but still, not too hot to just drop it, especially at Worlds. I think they should definitely include it but make the time cut very tight to limit the number of competitors. Just my 2 cents. Todd

I think they should definitely include it but make the time cut very tight to limit the number of competitors. Not a bad idea, but how would they enforce it? I guess everyone would need to submit a provable time, but actually checking all those times could be a nightmare. And, to be clear, are you suggesting adding the 1500 and also keeping the 800? If you did this you'd definitely need to add one more day of swimming. Two days each dedicated to a single event seems a little crazy to me.

Pretty sure the distances for Worlds only go up to 800 (because of the number of participants). As for the second question, I have no idea. My own question: Do relays swim as "club" relays (as in you need 4 people from the same club) or are they done by nationality? Relays are club.FINA will not recognize national teams for Masters.

FINA competition always uses your age on 12/31.

Since FINA specifically doesn't allow national teams for Worlds I wonder how that will work. Somewhere in July, mid July that is. The meet is definitely held at Parc Jean Drapeau, outdoor facilities. Not a bad pool. Of course outdoor 50m swims are always a challenge for back strokers but all in all, it's a good pool. Can't wait to spend time down there with my USMS friends!

I am so there! And if this uses your age as of Dec 31, I will be at the bottom of my age group...I think. Sweet! It's strange that Worlds are going to be closer to me than Nats ever are....I can't wait - I hope to see a lot of you there! Lets make it a date gigi! I'd love to go to Montreal too! Is anyone else interested in having the 400 free and medley relays and the 800 free relay on the program for Montreal? I have not seen the program yet, but since these events are now eligible for World Records in Masters, it would be great to have them on the docket for Worlds. They have not been included events at other Worlds as far as I know. If there is interest, maybe there is time to include them in the meet. Of course, it makes the meet longer and causes other problems, but it might be fun to have these events included. Comments? RELAY DAY! Not to open up that old subject, but I REALLY LOVE RELAY DAY! As it stands now, swimmers have to compete on relays affiliated with their own masters club. "National Team" as referenced in the article is Olympic/World Championship Team members. Are the dates even announced yet? Better start writing your letters right away.

What a thrill! I will have to book up a bit on Canadian swimming history so I understand better what's going on.

still don't see dates. just read the canadian gazzette. however, just read qualifying times for Riccione on a different post. Montreal is an outdoor pool. interesting. i thought they may use the one they did for canadian nationals. think i age up for canadian ones. c'est la vie

As I have stated elsewhere, if you are going to compete in Quebec, you must be prepared to embrace and consume poutine, otherwise you will be disqualified from the competition.

I don't believe there's any more thorough vetting of seed times at Worlds than there is at USMS Nationals.Cool, so does that mean Kurt can sandbag for Worlds ... :bolt:
