It's a few days late, but I want to congratulate Mission Viejo for hosting another well run meet. :applaud: I also enjoyed the additional competition from the non-SoCal swimmers who made the effort to come to the meet. Thanks for coming!

Put zones ON nats dates so that I have another chance to be in the top 10 !! You just might be in luck! There is no rule that says they can't do it!! www.usms.org/.../ec-2011-8-10-1.pdf "5) 503.5, 502.9 section legislation (Mike) – Mike stated that the language found in Sections 503.5 and 502.9 may not be valid and could be removed since they could have great impact on local or Zone championships if interpreted as rules. Mike made a motion to remove the language from the Rule book. CJ seconded. Jeff made the point that there is no penalty language if an LMSC did schedule an event. Rob C said it would be a good policy to follow. Dave D asked what is the harm in keeping this in the Rule book. Mike said there is no harm, but it should be recognized as a guideline by Zones and LMSCs. Ralph said that this is done in the spirit of cooperation. Mike withdrew his motion."

One question I had as I was leaving: There was a guy who wore a women's (torso coverage) suit during the 200IM. I overhead he was trying to "make a statement," but I am not sure the right people noticed. Did anything come of that? Yes, he was disqualified. Whatever kind of statement he was trying to make, a championship meet was not the place for it.

I overhead he was trying to "make a statement," but I am not sure the right people noticed. A guy pulled this in the Davis Meet too. The only reason I knew was because the guy swimming in the lane next to him later described it to us. In this case it was a full length legs suit. He said he was really surprised it was done and regrettably, allowed it to distract him during the race. Also saw it done at The Trans-Tahoe, but that is an honor system race...

In this case, he asked the starter if it was alright to wear the women's suit.The starter did not object, but someone else noticed what had happened and he was DQ'd after the race. There could have been some confusion, since the suit was FINA approved. But USMS and FINA also specify the differences in coverage for women and men.

Had fun in the meet this weekend at MV...coming from Colorado. It's a great location, and I am looking forward to swimming there at the 2013 LCM Nationals. It was also cool to see Janet Evans and Brian Goodell compete. One question I had as I was leaving: There was a guy who wore a women's (torso coverage) suit during the 200IM. 10 day forecast looks like perfect SoCal summer weather for racing -- low in the 60s, high in the low 80s. Coming from Arizona, I might need to pack my parka ;) Looking forward to it. Oh come on now...don't be a wimpy wimp. You just came from Oregon where the sun comes out about 10 days a year. I think you happened to hit about 8 or 9 of those days while you were up here. :)

By the way, here's the attendance trend for SPMA's championship meets: ... For LCM championship meets - 2008: 222 swimmers ... 2009: 356 swimmers ... 2010: 257 swimmers. 118 right now. The rest of the country does not understand the southern California method of entering at the very last moment. There are far too many distractions and not enough weekends to enjoy them all. Yeah, I hear you, Pacific mimics that method as well.

Awesome ... I hope she's also in the 400; it'll be fun to race ... of course, I'll need to get a lot faster in 2 weeks to keep up!! Just as you're ready to step up onto the blocks with her, say "Race you to the 100!!" or something along those lines. Just follow through with it also! :)

Unless this meet receives a gob of registrations between now and tomorrow, it won't even be half the size of the Pacific Championships (402 swimmers). Hey, Jim: relax - registration will stay open until Aug. 5, so you still have a lot of time to sign up. By the way, here's the attendance trend for SPMA's championship meets: For SCY championship meets - 2009: 381 swimmers ... 2010: 425 ... 2011: 257. The 2011 meet was held two weeks after nationals, whereas the 2010 meet was two weeks before. For LCM championship meets - 2008: 222 swimmers ... 2009: 356 swimmers ... 2010: 257 swimmers. The biggest SPMA championship meet has tended to be the Short-Course Meters championship that is staged by the Long Beach Grunions in December. Here's that trend - 2008: 560 swimmers ... 2009: 648 ... 2010: 516.

It's barely a quarter of the size currently (117 swimmers :badday:). Really?! That's surprising and too bad -- no rest between events. That's 2 years in a row of poor attendance at long course meets since the suit ban.

Now I don't have to worry about competiting in my semi-out-of-shape condition, and can just work all day Saturday at get more OT. I only had 60 hours last week which is a weekly low for the past 5 weeks. :(
