I'm guessing that this also solves the little mystery of why Sabir Muhammad only entered the 50 free at Auburn (the very last event). On that same day at Senior Nationals (Saturday), the men's individual events are the 200 back, 200 ***, and 1500 free, in none of which I would expect to see a sprinter like him. My theory is that we'll see him swim some sprint events at Senior Nationals before flying back to Georgia Friday night and driving over to Auburn Saturday morning for a blazing fast 50 free in the afternoon. :bow:

You are exactly correct. I was at Auburn this past weekend and noticed that Rowdy still owns the school record in the 200 free! :bow: Sadly he cannot attend USMS Summer Nationals because our meet is the same week as USA Nationals, so he will be broadcasting their meet in CA. Thanks for solving that mystery! Too bad it worked out that way... :badday:

Hey, what's up with Rowdy Gaines not including himself in that group of 75? I thought he would return to his college pool, for sure! Perhaps his broadcasting work is taking him away... I asked Jeff at Mesa if he would be coming to Auburn, if I recall correctly he said it was just too close to Worlds. Maybe Rowdy felt the same? Hmmm, that's probably it- and the reason other Olympians are missing from the roster, as well. :badday: Hey, Chris, I will look forward to seeing you there! Here are the number of swimmers at the meet in the various men's age groups: 18-24: 16 25-29: 16 30-34: 21 35-39: 29 40-44: 50 45-49: 50 50-54: 75 55-59: 48 60-64: 39 65-69: 34 70-74: 26 75-79: 19 80-84: 7 85-89: 1 90-94: 1 Can you guess which age group I'm in? :censor: baby boom! From the looks of the psych sheets, they might as well put the medals in the goody bags that you pick up at check in!! Just have to dive in, swim legal, and just about everyone gets hardware. That's doesn't feel right for a Nationals to me. In the men's 1500 free, no one under 30 is entered in the event! In my age group, entries are very sparse except in the sprint free events (not surprising) and the breaststroke events (somewhat surprising).

When I heard the meet was at Auburn I was very excited to swim in such a fast pool.I suspected the attendance would be high.Then I found out that there was no close airport so I was a little worried about attendance,I am still surprised at under 700 though. A couple of years ago people were complaining about not enough Nats on the East Coast.To you Easterner's,why aren't more of you coming(the Maryland meet in 2000 was the best attended Nats of all.) I agree with Allen. I was surprised that attendance was so low given that Auburn is a fast pool. I know there's not a direct flight, but it's a fairly reasonable drive from Atlanta. And the hotels are less expensive. I can see why the CA swimmers may just want to attend the SPMA meet. But I was somewhat disappointed that more east coast swimmers didn't show. (Though it's not exactly on the east coast and there is a time change.) I will be there and am sure it will be fun. :) I'm especially glad there's plenty of room to warm up and warm down.

I may be misremembering, but I think in all but one of those cases (Omaha), the host was the only one to submit bid for nationals. Clovis was my favorite nationals partly because of all the warmup space. I've heard from those who went to PR that it was great. I'm looking forward to Auburn. I don't doubt that the meets are fun, where ever they are held. I've had fun at every nationals I've been to, even when I've swam poorly. I was referring more to the awkward locations (for many to get to). I naively assume that hosting nationals is a money maker for a club; that may not be the case. But if it is, why are there so few bids? Is it the logistics of hosting the meet (needing 100s of volunteers)?

This makes me the closest with my 742 vote, I think. Who's buying me one of these :chug: the next time Nationals are in a place where you don't have to take two or three planes and a pickup truck down a dirt road to find the pool? My opinion is of course worth less than the cost of :chug:, but holding the meet in "the middle of nowhere" (Clovis, Omaha, PR, Auburn, even Portland) makes it tough for some folks to coordinate the logistics (or afford the expense) of the trip. I managed Portland 'cause it's my backyard and Clovis 'cause it's cheap, but the others?

2. The small locker rooms at the pool won't be quite as packed. :worms:Men's locker room had plenty of space. If the women's is too crowded... 3. You will have a better chance to medal. (I'm at the bottom of the heap in my events, so count me out for one of those...)I think I'm the same way. Barely made QTs on two events and I'm off the cut on the other three. But fewer people ups my odds anyway. I don't have a problem winning by default.

Absolutely. I age up a month before and my sister lives an hour away. That's my target meet for 2012! I age up in January (50). Funny, but aging up outside of the USMS world is such a :afraid:thing. Never have I seen people get so excited about aging up as in USMS! :banana: OK, so you're on! :chug: I owe you a beer at Greensboro. Lucky for me, it's about a six hour drive and Auburn is less than 2 hours. Georgia Tech was only 45 minutes away! :bliss: I did have to fly to Mesa, but it was worth it, even if the heat did beat me down!
