We're drier than most states - no wine. liquor or beer in most grocery stores. Beer distributors are still open, but I think there is some % alcohol level they can't exceed and it's below standard wine 12%. I haven' heard any horror stores, although I'm sure there are some.

I heard there were serious lines out the door in the day or so between when closings were announced and they happened, but that was back a couple of weeks ago before the PA cases even went over 100.

RE: Pools closed - any ideas?

As far as the liquor stores being opened...I heard someone comment on a radio talk show that the reason governments have allowed them to open is... Dan

Heard a governor in an interview state taht localities that closed them caused the opposite affect of what is desired. People scrambled to stock up and those places got PACKED before the closure took place, which of course defeated the whole purpose (i.e. social isolation).

RE: Pools closed - any ideas?

Just to vent, it's outrageous that pools are closed and liquor stores open. Plus, exercise does more to improve people's resistance to disease than alcohol. This is stupid.

Jon -- Regarding pools...Of course the chemically treated water does kill the virus. But then what about that person you share the lane with? You both happen to be stopped at the same time. You've been doing various speed drills, both breathing very heavily. Probably dispersing some silvia with your huffs and puffs. Maybe there's an emergency at the pool. Now the lifeguard is in danger. Social distancing in the locker room means fewer people can use it...which means there's probably going to be a line of people out in front of the building, or in their cars, waiting their turn to get in. It begins to add up and just makes more sense to close the facility.

I was surprised at how easy it was to find and fit into a wetsuit. I also bought the neoprene socks and cap.

The wetsuit really keeps you warm, but exposed skin does not escape the cold. I think the key to getting going is telling your mind to ignore the stinging cold of the water until you warm up and get used to it. Ignore your instincts that are telling you to get the heck out of the water. Its not a simple task, but it really does get better, and before you know it, you're enjoying the swim. I swam for 30 min today.

Good luck!

I bought a wetsuit, as well. Sleeveless, as that was what seemed to be what the interwebs recommendation was. But I tried the lake. I didn't make it far. My body kind of tried to panic, and I couldn't get my breathing down. How long did it take you to warm up enough to be able to swim, and did you have any issues getting your breathing down? Perhaps the inability to see what another factor with me.

RE: Pools closed - any ideas?

Just to vent, it's outrageous that pools are closed and liquor stores open. Doing 12 or 18 oz curls. Seriously, though, as I'm on telework for most of every week for the foreseeable future, the wife and I thought, what the heck, let's get a puppy! Not really, but it was serendipitous that our breeder had one available. And 15 months since we had to put down our then 15-year old dog, we were ready. So the wife and I are sharing the house-breaking (constant) trips outside. We got him on Tuesday, and since that day, I've averaged over 12K steps every single day. I've not gained any weight, so I guess that's helping.

Sounds like my life. Ex runner/racer who had to give it up. Need total knee replacement. Envious of every runner my age who can actually still run. I try to fool myself into thinking maybe they just started, unlike me, who was a runner for about 30 years.
Running was so easy to do. You can run anywhere, in any weather, anytime you want. Swimming took a long time to somewhat master. This year, I finally fixed some flaws in *** and back stroke. Fixed my "dead" hips in the water. Then, this. Ugghh. I will have heavy hips and legs again from all this walking. I'm ordering an indoor bike so I can alternate. But walking in the woods is helping. I pray they don't take that away next.

RE: Pools closed - any ideas?

My friend and I ordered wetsuits from Swimoutlet and braved our HOA pool Thursday when it was 70 degrees out and cloudy, and today when it was 60 degrees out, cloudy, and the pool was overfilled with rainwater.

I rarely do as many as 30 in a row. I normally do sets of 20-25. 4-6-8 sets with a few minutes between. Likewise for squats, sets of 10-15. I’ve gotten to 150 pushups a day for weeks at a time, but as far back as I can recall, my max set was 70. In my 60s I would do more. One day, age 65, I managed 10 sets of 50 in 1 hr. It’s gotten a bit tougher to sustain at 72.

RE: Pools closed - any ideas?

My bike is still on hooks in the garage. The only ones I have right now come from Sean Vigue (yoga coach out of Colorado - he has an app with several free videos, mostly power yoga & Pilates but has some stretching too)...they’re great, but shaking it up would be good too!

RE: Pools closed - any ideas?

Thank you so much, Elaine!! Already got to use some of your dryland (only made it to 30 push-ups and had trouble even showering after, so...I guess I needed that! :D

RE: Pools closed - any ideas?

Wow, that's a ton of info.
