I had medication at home, the office, in the vehicle, and the shop. It was terrible. Now, I don't have symptoms of GERD or most days, my IBS for that matter.

RE: Eating before early morning work outs

I don't feel like I'm bogged down trying to digest food and workout at the same time. Digestion takes energy; so I usually workout at 0350 in the morning, shower, go to work, and eat sometime between 0800 and noon. Being low carb is great, I'm not hungry, I don't get sore or tired regardless how intense the workout.

My meals are simple:

Breakfast is typically 4 eggs with bacon bits and Mexican cheese with 2 slices of beef bacon.

If I have lunch, which I don't most days, its a homemade measured out 8 oz hamburger patty with Colby jack cheese and mustard.

Dinner is either a NY strip steak or Ribeye steak with a salad (2 cups romaine lettuce, parmesan cheese and light balsamic vinaigrette.

Hope this helps

RE: Eating before early morning work outs

I have GERD, but I also tend towards hypoglycemia. This means I can't have much in my stomach but I need to have SOMETHING. What's worked best for me has been a sprouted grain English muffin with unsweetened, salted peanut butter and a small (or half) banana. I try to eat this 90min to 2h before a 9 AM Masters swim. If I'm swimming way earlier, than I'll eat an RxBar as soon as I get out of bed, which is about 30 minutes before getting in the water. The strategy in both cases is to eat slow carbs with a good dose of healthy fat and a bit of protein to prevent a blood sugar spike. Plus, neither meal takes up much room in my stomach; I'm not belching up acid while swimming. (Sorry to be so graphic!)

RE: Eating before early morning work outs

Personally, I’d eat a banana, a boiled egg and some orange juice before a morning workout. I really dislike eating in the early morning but if I don’t eat, I gas out during my workout.
I would welcome some guidance to transition to less sugar and reducing food cravings at night.

I have done 2 Sprint Triathlons and want to train for an Olympic in November but I'll need a lot to get there. I am looking at dietary and nutritional changes, and though i eat well, I welcome some guidance to restore balanced energy.

RE: Eating before early morning work outs

What do you like about fasted workouts. I've been doing it for about 6 years now; both in the water and in the gym. I also prefer a low carb lifestyle, more of a carb cycling method. I have recently been reading some Internet information on intermittent fasting which implies that you can get a better response of increased human growth hormone and muscle rebuilding by not eating before the work out. Since I haven’t done this before I’m a little anxious.

there is not right answer, only peoples opinions on everything!

remember that you have been at least asleep for 6 or 8 hours, meaning that you blood sugar is low, so going on an empty stomach sounds to me like going on a road trip with an empy fuel tank. if you do, youre blowing up your piston for running them dry. so why do it to your body? there is no difference. just eat something that is light, and easy to absorb. fruits and oatmeal make great candidates. some people also say drink coffee and go on an empty stomach for "burning fat" which is terrible idea. caffeine is a diaretic, which means it will pull what ever little sugar from your blood to supply the muscles.

my name is Joey, I swam for team usa and now I work with master athletes in regards to physical fitness and nutrition, if you are interested in learning more, send me a message.
