In case you didn't catch the minutes from the annual meeting last month, the Championship Committee voted to use the traditional formula, years 2020, 2021 and 2022. NQT's will be posted around the 27th of October.

We will more than likely consider the years 2019, 2021 and 2022 for the calculation period since there was limited racing opportunities in 2020.

Since there were no Spring Nationals in 2020 and therefore no tenth place finish, what will the formula be for estimating NQTs?

We're proud to announce that Irvine, California, has been chosen to host the 2023 USMS Spring National Championship April 27-30 and Sarasota, Florida, has been chosen to host the 2023 USMS Summer National Championship Aug. 2-6.

“These are two amazing locations to host our pool national championships,” USMS CEO Dawson Hughes says. “After having grown up in Irvine and moving to Sarasota, I know first-hand that California and Florida are perfect swim vacation destinations and home to many of our biggest and most engaged Masters programs. Both hosts also have excellent support structures in place that’ll allow them to run their meets smoothly and provide our members with a memorable experience.”

Thanks for your patience on this. The typical timeframe/process was delayed due to the pandemic. We are working to get back 'on cycle' and announce 2024 dates/locations in the coming months.

It might be helpful for future seasons if an anticipated announcement timeline is posted on the USMS website, that would likely prevent these sorts of forum threads, especially when the process has been delayed.

The sites have been preliminarily selected but until the contracts have been presented, agreed upon by all parties and signed, it would be premature to make any formal announcements. We're just about a week or two away from finalizing and signing so we apologize that it seems like we aren't making progress.

Surely if you are expecting anyone to attend 2023 USMS Nationals, you must have chosen the sites by now. Looks like I will be going to 2023 National Senior Games instead. At least I know where and when they will be (Pittsburgh,PA July 7-18, 2023).

Thanks, Gene. Actually they are on our radar but, in case you weren't aware, are in the process of re-building their aquatic complex and have been at it for quite some time now. Their original time of completion plan may have been derailed a bit by the pandemic. Once they finish, or get close to finishing, and submit a bid, they will, of course, be considered.

Have the dates been selected, or do the selected sites choose the dates? The reason I'm asking is that for last several years they always pick the weekend that my employer has a in service day where no one can take off.

Tim,

The Championship Committee has met with and discussed the bid packet information with the bidders and made selections. However, there are still contractual steps that need to be addressed and agreed to between the bidders and the Nat’l Office before the site selections can be made public. It is later than normal as we closed the 2023 bids due date on Dec 1, 2021 instead of May 1, 2021, due to uncertainties related to last year’s later than normal National pool events and the Covid situation. Hope that explains the situation and we’ll get the information out as soon as reasonably possible.

What's the holdup? This seems like it's a lot later than normally announced, especially with the bidding packets for 2024 being due by May 1st.

Nope. Still have a few weeks, possibly a couple of months, before anything will be announced.
