Has anyone used a fundraising campaign to pay for themselves to attend Nationals? Do you think it's inappropriate? I think it's only inappropriate if you have the money to pay for it yourself. If you truly need the help then I don't see what's wrong with it. No one is forced to contribute, after all! :)

I thought about donating part of what I raise to a charity. Maybe a swimming related charity. I would say I need x amount to go and anything over that I would donate. Or I could say I need x amount and half of what I raise I donate.

I've often thought about it and/or trying to find a sponsor. Someone's got to break the ice. Go for it and let us know your trials and tribulations.

Our masters swim team has probably over 50% triathletes in its membership. One of our teammates started a Go Fund Me page to raise money to travel to and compete at Ironman Arizona. It was not well received by other teammates in the triathlon community.

Just remember, anything you raise is taxable income. You may be your own favorite charity, but the IRS doesn't agree. :shakeshead:
