This suit is probably approved for open water swims. The list of FINA approved suits is shown at: www.fina.org/.../index.php I don't see this suit on the list. However, the list of approved suits for 2012 will be published on December 31, 2011. You're right Barry, my first reaction is seemingly always pool related, not open water, since I don't go there often - if at all.

I don't know how the TYR website can say that this zipper-back chest covered male "short john" www.tyr.com/.../tracer-light-zipperback-short-john-p-1076.html is FINA approved.

OK, I have to ask the question but on the Tyr website they are selling a men's short john....are they now legal again??? it notes that it is Fina approved. Nope, not yet.
