Empty lanes can dampen competitive conditions and we would like to avoid that when possible at Nationals. That is correct. Here is the full scoop on seeding decisions:

The Championship Committee has decided NOT to drop the 6th event for the 2011 U.S. Masters National Championships at Auburn University.

The 800 and 1500 Freestyle events will be deck seeded slowest to fastest by entry time (regardless of age) with men and women swimming separately. The 400 IM will be deck seeded slowest to fastest by time, regardless of age (men and women separate). The 400 Free will be preseeded slowest to fastest by entry time, regardless of age. All other individual events will be preseeded by age group with the oldest age groups first, slowest to fastest within each age group.

Please make sure you are aware of check-in deadlines for the deck seeded events and entry deadlines for all relays.

RE: Auburn scratches

I just noticed that the 200s are pre-seeded, not the usual positive check-in.
