Probably a crazy question.......... At Nationals and Zones . Are they both swum with a Prelim and Final or only one race- a final?

Thanks for the information. Maybe an email going out to USMS members for SCY '06 would be good so that swimmers are aware of the problem and that they should consider mailing their entries in? Just a thought, communication never hurts:-)!!

Just curious as the meet information says that online entries will be available by February 1st and I don't see them anywhere? Anyone know when or where they are available? The web address on the meet information gives a page but nothing comes up?

Note the following from the Executive Committee Midyear Meeting: MSA that the webmaster cease all but emergency web maintenance until the Worlds online entry system is completed. The online entry system for the Worlds Championship was supposed to be operational by January 1. A little info (my opinion only) about the hotels in Coral Springs: Mapquest is wrong if they say Wellesley is a 1/2 mile from the pool -I would guess it at about 2 - more like 3 miles away (same with the other hotels) 1) Good choice - Wellesley Inn. Next door is Denny’s. You can walk a couple of blocks to the following types of restaurants – Japanese/Sushi , a deli, steak, Italian, Greek, Baha Fresh, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, and a great ice cream and chocolate store(my downfall), several sandwich shops and one of the best restaurants in Coral Springs: Gold Coast Grill. Barnes and Noble is also nearby. 2) La Quinta…..a couple of blocks from Wellesley, opposite direction as the restaurants/stores mentioned above, but only a short walk to them. 3) Marriott Courtyard –next door to McDonalds and Arbys and a couple of blocks to Whole Foods Market. If you are a Marriott Rewards point collector a good place to earn points. The Coral Square Mall is about a quarter mile away. 4) Marriott Hotel – probably the nicest as in full service hotel –set off in a golf resort. I would recommend a car rental as you will then have the ability to see so much more of Coral Springs and South Florida. Mark Gill should be able to help with his opinion after he makes a visit.

Is anyone familiar enough with the area to tell me if it is practical to walk from the Wellesey Inn to the pool? When I look it up on MapQuest, it says that it is a half mile, but is it a safe, comfortable walk? Also, the latest magazine lists some of the hotels as having shuttles for "nominal" fees. Does anyone know the specifics on the shuttles, i.e. how often they run, do you pay each time you ride or can you get a pass for the duration, etc. Finally, if one chooses to drive to the pool what is the parking like? Thanks!

I have not yet been to the pool and looked at the hotels, but will go in a few months. As for the shuttle, there are four hotels that the host is planning on serving. Swimmers will have th opportunity to purchase a shuttle pass that will be good for the meet. Parking is plentiful at the facility. If you drive, there are several lots surrounding the pool that will be available to us during the meet.

Jim, Your splits were very consistent so we extrapolated the last 200. We also assumed you would have sped up on the last 100, so that one was a second faster. Mark

When a meet host offers a five day format, we are able to split the 1000 and 1650 onto separate days. At Rutgers, there were on Thursday and Friday. This past summer at Mission Viejo, the 1000 was on Thursday and the 1500 was on Monday.

Jeff- putting distance people first is great for us sleeping in, however, would have disasterous consequences upon any buffet-style banquet the meet might host. Imagine hordes of distance-types destroying the desserts while we're still sprinting...

Yes, I did like the schedule when the meet was in Tempe. But in Indy it was nuts having to do back-to-back events, though they were about an hour apart. To tell you the truth, the schedules are fine. As a backstroker and breaststroker, I can never be satisfied with the lineup because it's almost impossible to keep backstroke and breaststroke events separated without one or both of them bumping into an IM race. In case anyone's wondering what I thought up, here is a schedule I formulated, based on the order at masters nationals and the USA Swimming order at their nationals. Obviously, in long course you would throw the 100 IM out. Day 1: 1000/1650 Day 2: 500 free (men or women), 200 ***, 100 free, 200 back, 50 fly, 100 IM, free relay Day 3: 400 IM, 50 back, 200 free, 100 fly, 100 ***, 50 free Day 4: 500 free (men or women), 50 ***, 100 back, 200 fly, 200 IM, medley relay Putting the distance events first each day gives people a little more sleeping in time.

Jeff, The meet organizer for this event didn't have a choice about the schedule that they had to use. The meet schedules are prepared by a committee of the championship and voted on by the delegates from your LMSC (and all the others) at the House of Delegates meeting at convention. There are typically seven different meet schedules presented to the House and by a process of elemination, they are removed until only 3 remain. These are then the schedules that will be used at the long course and short course nationals for the next 3 years. The current list of schedules ( on page 42 of the rulebook and on the USMS website) will last until 2007). This year we are using schedule 1 and *** and IM are close to each other in 2 out of 3 IM's. Schedules 2 and 3 are much better in that regard, so hang in there. The schedule changes each meet so you have a good chance of not having the same problem every time you go to nationals. Just so folks are aware, swimmers are surveyed every so often ask to what events they would least like to see back to back in the meet. The top 10 selections off of this list are used in determining possible orders of events. Also, we avoid putting two events of the same stroke on the same day (freestyle excluded) such as the 50 and 100 backstroke. If anyone has a fair and balances schedule that they would like to suggest, please feel free to submit it to the chair of the championship committee, Mark Moore. We are always welcome to suggestions.
