It certainly was a great meet in Cleveland! And thanks to all concerned. In the ten years or so that have passed since I swam in the same pool at a National YMCA meet, the men's locker has progressed from the world's worst to the world's best!! I was pleasantly surprised to find that all of the events were swum in heats governed by age group, rather than exclusively by seed times. (That is, all events of 200 meters or less). Actually, I have spent hours both before and after the meet trying to ascertain if it was written that it was going to happen that way, but haven't been able to find anything other than the deck seeding announcement and warning. Please, if anyone can find the place where it is so written, point it out to me and anyone else who might be interested.

The arcane USMS National Championship seeding procedures are part of the USMS Rule Book Section 104.5.5 http://www.usms.org/rules/ hope this helps michael

Laura, I was unable to get a couple of my placement plates for the last few events. I had to run to the airport. Someone from my team was supposed to pick them up, but missed a couple. Is there any way I can get someone to mail those to me. Who do I need to contact? Thanks, Henry Stewart

Speaking as an observer (vs. a competitor) over the course of the last few days, I must say that I had a splendid time. I accompanied one of the older competitors at the meet (my 84 old grandfather) and got to observe a lot. It was pretty clear that things were running pretty smoothly and people were having a great time. I wouldn't have guessed that the time between heats would uniformly be so brief. Also, that it was easy to understand what was going on from the announcements - both in terms of specific heat information and then other information (the replay on the TV upstairs, when the relays would start, and so on). Nice job, and if my grandpa keeps competing as he ages up, I'll happily join him again (hoping of course that things go equally well next time around). On another note, if anyone happened to have picked up a black T-shirt with a tuxedo design in the front, saying "Aptos BiCentennarians" on the back, that would be his - he misplaced it sometime on Sunday - if you could email me if it turns up (email in my profile), that would be swell. :)

I would like to add my thanks and congrats to everyone involved in organizing and running this meet. It was a huge undertaking, and it was a huge success! Thanks to Pieter, Laura, Tom, Lily, Kristen and all! Also a big thank you to Gerry Meyer for the social at the Rock Hall - VERY cool!

On behalf of the North Carolina gang I want to say thanks to everyone involved in such a succesful meet. In addition to a flawless meet we enjoyed your city and your people!! Personally, this was my first Nationals, and it was a great experience!! I can't wait for next year at Rutgers!! I hope they can keep up with the high standard set in Cleveland!:) :)

Kudos to Laura Kessler, Pieter Cath and the entire crew of volunteers. This meet was very well run and, the most important reason for going, the social was the best that I've ever experienced at Nationals.

Let me be the first non-Ohioan to add my voice of gratitude to Laura Kessler and everyone else who did such a great job at the meet. I had a great time and am already making plans to bring my wife and sons back to Cleveland in the not too distant future to see the R&R museum and eat some more of the great food at places like the Great Lakes Brewery and Blue Point. Thanks!

The distance events on Thursday are estimated to end at 10:30PM. The competition pool will close after the last heat of the 1500 meter free. The warm-up pool will be open from 6:30 AM until the completion of the last heat of the 1500 meter free.

How late will the pool be open on Thursday? Some of us are driving, and should be arriving Thursday afternoon/evening. If the pool closes after the distance races, then we would want to arrive earlier to loosen up in the warm-up pool. Of course, it would be nice to work on starts/turns in the competition pool (after the races are over).

New question I heard on deck at a local meet yesterday. Laura, can you please clarify this statement made on the info page? Men's heats and women's heats will start at alternate ends of the pool. Women's heats will precede men's heats for each event. I'm a little confused by this. Using the 100 free as a generic example, does this mean: A) Heat 1 of the women's 100 free starts from end A. Then heat 2, 3, 4, etc of the Women start from end A. After the final heat the first heat of the Men's 100 free starts from end B. or B) Heat 1 of the women's 100 free starts from end A. Then Heat 1 of the Men's 100 free starts from end B. Alternate until all heats are exhausted. I'm sure it is example A because your second sentence says Women's heats precede Men's but I just want to be sure because the word "alternate" is confusing as it can give two possible scenarios. Plus I can't extract the benefit to swapping ends at the conclusion of each event. Thanks, Jeff

Alright Hugh - here is my stab... Have results been posted for Cleveland yet? I mean, if I can find out how I swam ahead of time I can decide how much time off work I should take for this trip. Better yet, I can decide how late I can stay at the Great Lakes Brewing Company and still make it up for my events. :)
