I would encourage you to promote this event in 2018 ... and maybe make the qualification period longer? Could you keep this open for the entirety of 2018 or is that just a logistical nightmare. I think it would take a special amount of motivation to try this and suspect I'd have a few failed attempts along the way, so it would be cool to have a long period in which to get psyched up enough and in shape enough to do this.

Yes, one and the same. And by all accounts, he brought that same larger-than-life personality to our team back in 1981. He was the second Head Coach in our program following Dave Scott, the club founder and six-time Hawaii Ironman Champion.

Did this Ross coach in the Denver area in the early 80s? I swear that was the name of my age group coach when I was like 11-13. If so, wild character. We used to have Donut relays (Masters had Kahlua and coffee relays) and donut particles were all over the pool (swim 50 meters swallow 1 donunt hole, swim 50 meters...up to 4 donut holes).
