I am pretty sure your entry time must be faster than the qualifying time.There are always a lot of swimmers who enter that don't break the qualifying time at the meet.For them it is basically the same as a DQ or a DNS.I guess my point is,you don't have to verify the QT to enter,but if you aren't sure you are faster,it may not be worthwhile to swim that event.

When I was in Mission Viejo for Nationals, I spoke with a representative from Montreal about Worlds. Good news: They are currently in negotiations to have TWO temporary pools built for Worlds to provide additional warm-up lanes. :applaud:

I didn't think you needed qualifying cut times for Worlds. Essentially you don't. If you miss the time standard your time won't show up in the results for that event. It's almost like you never swam the event even though you did. I forget now whether your seed time needs to be under the qualifying standard or not. If you don't have any metric swims I'd suggest using an online converter like the one at Swimming World: www.swimmingworldmagazine.com/.../conversions.asp

finamasters2014.org/discipline.aspx If you can't access the link above, the Worlds website says you can convert your short course times to long course by adding 2%. They are talking about SCM times converted to LCM times. However, the qualifying times are very generous, so there isn't much to worry about there. And, you can just estimate your time LCM time with one of the conversion tools, or just add 9 seconds for a 100 and 18 for a 200.

Does anyone in-the-know have any info about qualifying using a yards time?I'd suggest you reach out to the organizers directly. I would think they'd want to have their closest proximity neighbors attend and, if they offer an SCM->LCM conversion factor, they can create an SCY->LCM factor. Alternately, find a meet this fall in SCM and get the times there!

Someone just asked me about using yards times to qualify for Worlds. The meet information says to add 2% to your short course meters time to get a long course meters time but doesn't mention using yards times (probably because this is the only country in the world that swims yards). Does anyone in-the-know have any info about qualifying using a yards time?

I was so concerned about the venue for swimming at 2014 Worlds that I sent an email to the CEO, Pierre Cloutier. He responded very quickly with the following: We are in the process of negotiating for 2 10 lane 50m to be installed at Parc Jean Drapeau. This is our 1st option. We will consider other options if this doesn’t materialize but we will not compete in only 1 pool for you and for us. It makes it long for swimmers but extra long for organizers and I’m not interested to be there till midnight every day. Keep checking our website or our Facebook for updates. Thanks for passing the word around. People that came to see our booth in Italy were told about the other pools. It’s a question of weeks before it’s officially finalized. Have a great day. PierreThis is great news. It looks from the aerial shots like there's a fair amount of green space around the complex to put another pool. My daughter's up there this week competing at their Canada Cup meet, so I hope to get her full report on the pool and the facilities in general. My wife confirmed the metro stop drops you right at the pool and a weekly unlimited pass was like $42, so that opens up a lot of Montreal from a lodging perspective.

The diving well is at the opposite end from the competition pool, still it would be much better if the diving well was open for warm up/down as well. I went to the web site for Worlds and looked at the venues pull down. They show three venues with pools including the Montreal Olympic venue. So, my guess is that diving will be in one venue and swimming in another. It would not really be possible to hold swimming and diving at the same time. CORRECTION - I just looked again, and the Olympic venue will be used for water polo and the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex will be used for water polo and synchro. So the swim venue will be used for diving too. My error!

The diving and swimming events will take place at Parc Jean-Drapeau Aquatic Complex. Since the diving is taking place at the same time as swimming events, I assume the 10 lane pool will be used for competition and the 8 lane for warm-up/warm-down. Riccione had two competition pools and two warm-up/warm-down pools and even that was crowded. This is going to be very crowded and look for loooooong days. I would have assumed both pools would be used for competition. In fact I thought that was a requirement for Worlds, but I don't see any other pool space available in the complex if the dive tank is being used for diving at the same time. I doubt this will be as big as Riccione or Stanford, but, yes, the days will be long. Maybe they'll open up the Olympic pool across town and offer a shuttle service for warm-up / warm-down? Even better, if the meet gets too large, run a two pool scenario between Jean Drapeau and the Olympic Pool like they did at Worlds a few years ago, alternating men and women by pool by day.

PWB, do you know now many DAYS it would take if there was a 1500? a single 10 lane pool? holy long days batman!!! there were 2 x 10 lane pools in italy and the meet went to 11pm each night. granted i bet that 6000 italians dont show up either. imagine 254 heats of the mens 100 free. oh wait i was there for that! but put 180 womens heats before that!

If I'm remembering correctly, this was the same order of events for both Stanford and Italy, and there was a 5-event limit.
