I am also worried about finding places to sit & relax while waiting for your event. And probably other things I haven't thought about. 8400 is a lot of people at a swim meet. Typing this from the Madrid airport Yeah. A ZOO!!!!! And remember the non-comp pools aren't as big! I would love to watch your 200 back but don't think I'll sit for 3hrs to do that nor would I think you wait 3hrs for my 100 free Warmup may be done in the sea!!! Haha Steve

Fortunately, I didn't enter any 50s... :). At least that will help your cost per meter swum during the week. That's one good thing of distance races.

and check out the 225 heats of the mens 100 free. yes, think about that. 2200 men in just 1 event. now think about this. if all of them want to warmup (at the same time let's say) and we use a 10 lane pool. that is 220 per lane. if everyone can go a 1:50 per 100 (110secs) then we only have to have 2 people in the same second in each lane. and with each person being more than 1 sec long.........well i'm sure this will be interesting to say the least. never mind the other events wanting to warmup. Warmup will probably be a zoo but I think this analysis overstates it a little. It is better perhaps to think of the "intensity" of the demand for warmup. The event will proceed at roughly the same pace as ANY masters meet, it will just last longer (but there are only 3 events for the day, of course). It is highly doubtful, for example, if I am in heat #200 that I will want to warm up when heat #1 dives into the water. The 50s will probably be worse, and not just because there are more people (I think there are something like 280 heats of men's 50 free). There are more people swimming in a short amount of time in any 50 event, so the intensity of the demand for warmup/warmdown space will be high. Fortunately, I didn't enter any 50s... :) I am also worried about finding places to sit & relax while waiting for your event. And probably other things I haven't thought about. 8400 is a lot of people at a swim meet.

800 heats won't be pre-seeded heats to be formed directly in the calling rooms OK all you 685 men...who wants to be in heat 1??? I'm sure they'll have a fistfight over that one vs. waiting all day long to swim. :D

I did search for swims by the American seeded one above you. One 800 in the database as a US master. 9:35 SCM, yet the entry time is 9:15 LCM.

a useful tool by a Dutch master swimmer to estimate your heat time a little skillfulness needed in using excel filters www.psvmasters.nl/HHH.shtml WMC Riccione (ITA) Estimated Starting Times for the WMC 2012 Swimming in Riccione (ITA) . Note this is an optimal schedule, in practice it will most likely be later. But you can refer to earlier starters to calculate the delay during the day.

Just figured out that the 800 Free for women will be at least 12 hours There are 571 entries for women. better bring good reading material. I will they have an internet cafe on site?? or close by? yeah i have jokingly told some of my friends that i hope to swim my 800 on sunday and not monday at 1am. which might actually happen! maybe i should have pulled a kurt dickson and entered in 12min to be in the 1st set of heats. lol not bagging on you kurt. :D

The Accreditation Center will be open May 31st from 2pm. Opening hours daily from 8 am to 8 pm. Extended opening hours to 9.30 PM on June 15/16 for late arrivals for OW competition ;) See you here in Riccione!

When I was entering, a warning message popped up alerting me that "the time you entered is faster then the listed world record. Are you sure this is your time?" I think those swimmers that entered really fast times knew exactly what they were doing. :bow: Laura, no one's going to question your times!! Someday, I'd love to enter my real time and have that message pop up. I'm going with the out-live and out-last strategy as I don't think the out-fast approach is going to work in the near term.

Not sure bout the men, but in 2004' and 2000- i competed against ex olmpians from europe. The US team was not as big as this year. Swim your own race and dont worry about what you cannot control- which is what my coach would say. Just be glad zubero isnt going

Has anyone heard if the earthquake in Italy has hit Riccione? The center only looks 80 miles away. no damage in Riccione everything is fine news for OW swimmers Due to the huge number of participants at the Open Water event, the FINA Master Committee and the O.C. decided, for safety reasons, to split the race in two days, saturday 16th and sunday 17th june. On saturday the 16th june age groups 40, 35, 30 and 25 men and women will start, on sunday the others age groups 85, 80, 75, 70, 65, 60, 55, 50 and 45 men and women. The swimmers involved in the Open Water and 400m Free on saturday could be able to swim in both events. The swimmers who will not able to participate at the 3k for logistic and organizative reasons would have to inform the OC within the 27th may at the email address ow.refund.wmc2012@federnuoto.it in order to be refunded.

There are quite a few very fast swimmers out there who rarely, if ever, swim in meets (that's true in the US as well). With 8000+ swimmers, I wouldn't be surprised at all for relative unknowns to pull down some very fast times. If so, check the world Top Tens for 2010, the last time there was a world championship. Were they noticeably faster than 2009 & 2011?

ok the fina all time top 10 list just proved it. 4 guys with entry times faster than the all time top 10. F A K E!!! Not sure it really matters. Not sure how excited I am about people editing my times (nor do volunteers want to go through all that garbage of checking entries). I just enter times I think I will swim and usually I'm not too far off. If the people that enter fast times are way off, I assume they will feel ashamed but maybe not....Europeans tend to still wear tiny speedos well into their 50s and 60s and seem not too concerned that their bodies are way past putting everybody through that kind of visual trauma.:)

chris, dont be shocked if somebody is entered ahead of your WR in the 200 back. LOTS of fake times!!!! where is the validity checking on these? totally stunned by the number of fake entry times!!! Maybe people are entering lifetime bests instead of masters bests? Or best times from a previous age group?
