The water temp is expected to be 70F, winds from the E then S at 7mph, UV index 10, mostly sunny w/ a high of 82F. The low tide coincides w/ the early morning start and allows the swimmers to swim with the flow as the water comes back into Tamp Bay. The 3pm high tide eventually gives way to an outgoing tide that puts the swimmer on a treadmill by 6pm if they are not near their final destination.

I agree, it's a lot of money, but it's less than other open water swims that take several hours less to complete. Some of our people are on the water over 14 hours on race day.

What is the "discounted" entry fee if you bring your own boat? Did I miss it in the attached file?

And people say Triathlon is expensive. :badday: tris are expensive and you don't get your own personal motorized escort for 12 hours. many of the captains earn their living as fishing guides. if they couldn't earn a days pay as a swimmers pilot, they would likely make other arrangements.

I was gung ho for this event. The unfortunate $300 increase rained on that parade. And people say Triathlon is expensive. :badday:
