We did a lot of free-diving and snorkeling though, everyday. Did a few day trips around the island. A lot of us (almost everyone...?) got quite sick on that trip, with a flu or something really nasty. I was more ill than I had been in years, luckily it hit me the last 3 days and well after the race. I had a long return trip to get back home to Toronto (connections, airports, back-to-back delayed flights, 9 hours stuck at the Aruba airport, stuck overnight in Miami - all with the flu - 30 hours to get home, it was quite bad actually.) Bonaire can be a challenging island to get to but it is worth the trip.

I will go back to do the Eco Swim again for sure. It was my first OW race and it hooked me.

RE: Bonaire Ecoswim, December 5, 2009

Todd,
Are you a diver? Or did you do the other activities - kayaking, biking, etc. - for the rest of the 10 days you were there?
Thanks.

RE: Bonaire Ecoswim, December 5, 2009

I was there in 2008, an awesome race and a wicked 10 days on "that sexy island". I don't think it is looking like I will be able to get down there this December, but, I will DEFINITELY be back to Bonaire to do the EcoSwim again. That is a given. 2010???

Thanks to Randy Nutt the host & promoter of this event (and everybody else involved) for putting on an absolutely incredible race.
